Win 7 Cannot Access one of 4 computers on LAN

I've tried every sharing thing I can including turning off the firewall and other services. I'm stumped. My main machine can "see" my AV Server and its drives but "cannot access....." any of the drives. I've shared with full permissions all of the drives and I've unintstalled and reinstalled File and Print sharing twice. I'm out of ideas. Other machines on the LAN are totally visible and can exchange files. I realize this is complicated but I'm hoping someone has thoughts or inspirations to share. Thanks for anything.

    Hi there,

In addition, have you tried accessing the shared drive or folder using this method?
Click on Start and in Search programs files and files box type \\ComputerName\SharedFolder or \\IPAddress\SharedFolderName. Note that you'll have to do this from the computer that's having an issue accessing the network resources.

    We'll appreciate an update.

Hi Parman, I'm using Norton AV and I've checked all the settings and can't see where any of them would interfere but, of course, I could be wrong. I can always disable NAV and see what happens I guess....haven't tried that yet.

Hi Sidowney717, No I guess I haven't tried yet to reboot it and will now and will get back to you shortly.

Hi 2XG, I think I have done this but I'll try once again and see what gives, thanks.

If you have tried what I have suggested to you and didn't work disabling Norton might help. Others have more luck on uninstalling it completely by using the Removal Tool, if you decide to reinstall it back you may do so.

    Please give us another update.

I have to agree with 2xg, I would completely remove Norton to see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't you can always re install but 80% of the time its good old Norton

Well, many thanks to all of you. It's made a difference. I rebooted (feel stupid for not having done that before now) after checking the other stuff you mentioned and NOW I can access my main machine from the AV Server.....which could not be done before this. I'll try 2xg's method of accessing the shared drive via the search box and if no change then I'll disable Norton, and then uninstall it completely and see what results. I'm feeling like the problem is now half solved and I'm close to solution thanks to your help! (Just to recap the remaining problem: I cannot access the AV Server from my main machine, "Access denied etc". Seems like that is where the remaining problem is located.

What kind of sharing are you trying to accomplish?

    • File and folder sharing
Turned on from the sharing tab of the file or folder properties
    • Homegroup sharing
Turned on from creating and joining a Homegroup
    • Public folder sharing
Files located in the Public folder.

Hi Parman, I'm only trying to move ordinary files around between my various computers on the ethernet LAN. In this latest case I'm trying to move some history courses ripped from DVD to my AV Server to stream the courses to our tablet where we can sit and watch them in comfort. I've not been able to move the files from my main desktop to the AV Server because of this "Cannot access......." problem. Now it's just in one direction that I have the problem: from desktop to Server. it works fine now in the opposite direction, from Server to Desktop.
