Fastest Wired Router

For a number of reasons I don't like wireless networks.

So with three computers and a bunch of peripeherals, I've got lots of ethernet cable running everywhere.

I am also certifiably insane.

For that reason, I swapped our all my CAT 5 cable with CAT 6 and therefore have the following question:

Since I need more ports, I added the NETGEAR PROSAFE 8-PORT ETHERNET DESKTOP SWITCH GS108 Newegg.com - NETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Business-Class Desktop Switch - Lifetime Warranty (GS108)

It was the best at the time but is now a bit old. Would I be wise to upgrade to a faster Wired Router or just stick with the D-Link? The Netgear Switch is so darned fast, I'm afraid the D-Link Router is too slow to keep up.

Your router appears to have 4 Gigabit LAN ports so it's not really slowing down your new Gigabit switch at all. :)

I used the gamer lounge router long ago but I now use the D-Link DIR-655 which has wireless also.

I went with Cat6 awhile back also.

The general difference between category 5e and category 6 is in the transmission performance, and extension of the available bandwidth from 100 MHz for category 5e to 200 MHz for category 6. True. But the WAN port is only 100 Mbs., which means you're probably lucky to get half that. Am I right or wrong that the WAN port is the so-called weak link - especially if all 3 computers are on the internet and/or downloading?

Okay so what internet speeds do you pay for?

I'm not sure why it's listed like that but I had this same router and it was running at Gb speeds but I like the DIR-655 much better, has all Gb port. It also had the same ISP speeds as the 655 so I'm not sure that one slower port matters much unless you have fiber optic ISP or something very fast.

And I like wireless because it's only as good as you make it and most people DO NOT know how to make it fast and reliable, but I do. :)
