Cannot turn on Media Sharing in Network and Internet

    Hello,

I'm hoping you can help me here.

I have been given a PC which has Windows 7 Enterprise on it. My old computer died and a friend had a dust collector in the corner. The PC itself is fantastic and I have had no issues with it. However, last night I discovered this problem.

I tried to connect my Xbox via Windows Media Centre to my Media Library. All the steps went well until the final point and it refused to connect.

'Not to worry' I thought I will just go through the old route of looking at my videos folder via the XBox360 and not MC.

This refused to connect. Checking WMP for sharing/streaming I couldn't find the option to do either. Jumped on Google and I discovered this is now in Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing > Change Advanced Sharing.

There it was so I clicked on the link and the button was there highlighted to turn on Media Streaming.

I click it, it responded, greyed out and returned to 'Turn on Media Streaming' repeated clicks dies the same and frustated clicks still give the same result.

I have scoured Google for a fix to this and people seem to have fixes or don't (none of the fixes as yet have worked for me).

    Can anyone please help?

I believe I am experiencing similar issues as you, but I took it one step further. I went into the Services configuration (services.msc) and noticed that the Windows Media Player Network Sharing service was not started (even though it was set to automatically run). So when I started the service, it goes through its process then disables again (with no error message). I'm starting to believe there is something to is shutting the service down (automatically) but I have no clue what it could be.
