    problem with downloading

hi! i'm windows 7 user. currently i'm using windows 7 ultimate RTM version. it works fine, but when i want to download something, it says that the volume is corrupt, especially the compressed file. however, when i download with vista, everything works fine. is this has something to do with widows 7. i can download movies though. but when i download compressed files, when i want to extract it, it says the volume corrupt. i've tried many compression tools, but they all have the same problems. i've also tried to change the netsh command, but still doesn't work. anyone have solution?

    Hi,
i am having exactly the same problem,
it took me 2 weeks to realize that the problem is something in windows 7
but can't find any solution (by the way it happens in both x86 & x64)

Ok guys we need some more info one if you both can update your system specs in your userCP.
Also what browser are you using IE, FireFox, Opera etc.
And what anitivirus software are you running?

I had a simular problem, with downloads and the majority being corrupt.
my fix for the problem was.
    click the ORB
type cmd (click run as admin)
    in the windows paste
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
enter and wait for the to show.

The fix is layman terms allows Windows 7 to adjust your tcp receive windows to grow and allow more windows to be open.
many times people use downloaders which ask for more pages to be opened than Windows 7 will allow.
I have used this authorized method to "allow Win 7" to download as fast as my ISP allows, and have not used any Download programs at all.
Try it an let me know. PS: This works in every version of Windows 7.
If you want to see what MS says about this. instead of
    pasteing

"netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal"

try netsh int tcp set global /?
autotuninglevel - One of the following values:
disabled: Fix the receive window at its default
    value.
highlyrestricted: Allow the receive window to
grow beyond its default value, but do so
    very conservatively.
restricted: Allow the receive window to grow
beyond its default value, but limit such
    growth in some scenarios.
normal: Allow the receive window to grow to
    accomodate almost all scenarios.
experimental: Allow the receive window to grow
    to accomodate extreme scenarios.
Plus all the other stuff as requested by DarkXeno

    Hi,
The brower that i am using is Firefox 3.5.3 & IE8. i have tried with couple download accelerators too and without them and it always was the same result.
the same goes for the anti-virus now i am using avast 4.8 but i had tests with no anti-virus at all and no change.

The settings in my computer was already "autotuninglevel=normal"
what i did is changed it to disable and now i am testing it.

the results are the same, the files are with CRC errors.

i've already tried the netsh command. i've changed it to normal, but same things happens. there were still CRC errors. btw, i'm using firefox, and i download the file using internet download manager 5.1.8. does this effect the downloaded file?
i'm currently using avg as my antivirus software.

Download managers, IMHO are completely unnecessary. Download the file without the manager and it will be fine.

In fact those download managers are famous for messing up drivers during the download process.

Can you test what happens when you boot to [safe mode + net] and download say a zip archive?

Is the problem exclusively limited to compressed archives (zip, rar, tar...)? Do other filetypes download without problems?

Have you tried using the command-line FTP client (ftp.exe) to download a few archives?

If the problem is specific to compressed filetypes, that hints at some type of filtering by an anti-virus remnant, or a browser plug-in. The network stack itself couldn't care less what filetype you're downloading.

    Hi,

i have tested with & without download manager, both in Internet Explorer 8 & Firefox.
also tested in safe mode + net with the same result.
also noticed that not only compressed files are corrupted. if you download movie you don't know if its corrupter because maybe one or two frames will be wrong but the movie will work, only if you compare with MD5 the file you know that its bad.
