    If it works through the WiFi then maybe the ports are disabled in your router configurations?

    EDIT: Or maybe its the cable that could be broke? If you have a spare cable try that also

    Can you list any Modems or ADSL modem/routers and/or access points/wireless routers and /or Range extenders(wireless repeaters) that you are using please?

    That autoconfiguration Appipa address subnet mask is normal when you cannot receive an ip address from the router DHCP server just means no internet access.

    When you updated your ethernet cards drivers did you download from the computer manufacturer's website if a branded computer or motherboard website if a custom build it is advisable to do that rather than just a re-install if that fails?

    The ports are enabled, according to the router. I've tried another cable; still the same.

    I'm using only one router: Huawei HG8245. I downloaded both from Broadcom and Asrock (MOBO manufacter). The original driver was from the motherboard driver CD.

    Edit: http://www.huawei.com/en/products/fi...8245/index.htm I don't know whether it's wrong to call it a router...

    Assuming that the router assigns IP addresses in a sequential order (some routers don't for security reasons) - then your router has seen 3 or 4 mac addresses since the last reset:
    dateway is ...100.1
    laptop LAN nic ...100.2
    laptop Wi-Fi nic ...100.3
    desktop nic#1 ...100.4
    desktop nic#2 ...100.5 ??

    Not that any of the info above really matters, I'm just thinking "out loud" as it were.

    So, if two computers cannot surf via LAN cables, then we are back to it being an issue with the router.

    It might not be a driver issue since you desktop and you laptop aren't connecting wired. If it was just one then maybe but since them both aren't connecting. It could be the routers ports that are at fault.

    It was my ISP who installed the router. I don't know whether another will function, but it's worth a try. I have a fiber network, if it makes any difference.

    Check the DHCP server is enabled on the huawei because of below:

    An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: Unable to contact your DHCP server. Request was timed out.
    Also can you provide an ipconfig /all when connected wirelessly to the huawei and have internet connectivity?

    Think of the box as a mufti-function printer/scanner/fax. If you want to talk about the scanning feature, you call it a scanner. This box has an ONT function, a router (NAT/DHCP/ports) function and a WAP function.

    Maybe some screenshots of the router interface would help us:

    I'm sorry, but I'm not sure how to enable DHCP. At least there's no option to do that in the router...

    everything seems fine there. Try to connect manually when wired.

    First: Right click the monitor on the bottom right and open network and sharing center
    2nd: click on the change adapter settings
    3rd: Right click local area connection and go to properties
    4th: look for ipv4 and click on it and go down to properties and open it
    5th: then click the use the following ip address:
    ip = 192.168.100.5
    subnet = 255.255.255.0
    default gateway = 192.168.100.1
    see if this works
