Houston, we have ignition!
Well, VistaKing, here's what transpired over the past hour or so.
First, I changed the Device Manager > Other Devices > Properties as you suggested.
No change re WiFi.
Then I copied the WLAN driver folder over to my desktop. (I was previously installing it direclty from the flash drive, which may not have mattered.)
Then -- and I suspect this is the key change -- instead of running only the Setup and Install application files, I tinkered further and ran another application file titled Install_sw.
Everything else had extracted, but this Install_sw file referenced additional files that needed to be extracted, which of course I did.
Then it ran. Then the WiFi came on. Then I smiled.
Seriously, VistaKing, you were instrumental in making this happen. Thanks for not giving up on me. I probably would have abandoned ship had I been on my own, but with your support I figured eventually we would get it fixed.
Thanks to torchwood (Roy) too.
I've still got a long ways to go to get this silly thing running like it did previously. Not the least of which is that the default touchpad makes it almost impossible to keyboard decently. I regret that I lost some Samsung specific programs/drivers in this process, but perhaps now with WiFi back on I can track some of them down. I suppose I'd best start with getting Norton 360 reconnected.
In short, we have a bright lad on the west coast assisting a bit of a dummy on the east coast, and the latter wishes to express his gratitude.
