    Cant link computers in homegroup

I am trying to link my laptop to my desk top computer. Both running windows7 home premium x64. When trying to link the two i get the message 'This computer belongs to a homegroup' on both computers, I dont have an option on either to join a homegroup. Not being computer literate can someone please help?

Hello Alwyn, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Go ahead and leave the homegroup on both PCs, then double check through the tutorials below to create a homegroup on one PC and join the homegroup with the other PC. Be sure to read all information in the tutorials below to see if they may help ID what may have went wrong the first round.
Hope this helps for now, :)

I have left homegroup on both laptop and desktop. Recreated homegroup on desktop tried to join homegroup with laptop but a message tells me that there are no computers in homegroup on netwok and asks to create one. I'm getting very frustrated because I'm not very computer literate.

Did you check each and every item listed in the blue NOTE box at the top of the tutorials, and go through each step?

Because of my inexperience computer skills I am reluctant to go too far. All these settings should be default?

Not all of them will be set properly by default.

If you like, take a look at each of them, and feel free to ask any questions you may have. We'll be happy to help you get through them. :)

When clicking on 'computer' on both computers in the bottom left hand corner they both say ....Workgroup: Rays Computer .
Rays computer is the desktop computer. The computers still don't talk to each other.

Ok, good they both have the same "workgroup" name. They must also have different "computer names".

Keep on going down the check list.

All the right boxes are ticked. Both computers have different names but still not connecting.
