Is it possible to wake on LAN remotely through internet

Before posting my question i feel that i must say this. SevenForums has become my exclusive source when looking for answers no matter how simple or complicated the questions may be... This is the only site that the answers are up to the point, simple, effective and to my experience always spot-on and correct. Thank you for beeing on the world wide web, you make a difference.

Now my question is this. I was always wondering if i could wake on lan my PC remotely i.e through internet. I am using a DSL line and i have the ISP gives me the option to have a static IP for free. So should i go for it? Will i be able to wake my home PC remotely, if i want to? What changes whould i make? Where to start?

Are there any alternatives (for not static IP) that are equally easy to set up and manage?

Also, would you advice me to go for the free static IP. Does it have significant other benefits apart from having a webserver at home (which i dont plan to, at least in the near future)?

Hence, my router has an option to wake on lan other pc's in the LAN. Although this is self explanatory i wonder if it also has to do something with the remote wake on LAN i am requesting info for.

    Best regards,
    Dionisis

Yes you can wake a computer on LAN. Put only if it is in sleep mode. You have to edit the BIOS (CMOS) to enable wake on LAN.

Also now I think it is possible to WOL with teamviewer. Will post back and let you know.

No teamviewer does not do it at the moment. I heard it did maybe in the next verison.:)

Ok here is a tut to set up your pc to WOL. Now what i suggest to you is. Just get the freeware software. The link on this page, and use teamviewer. It is the easiest.
