    Ad hoc ICS

Well, I have some trouble with my ad hoc network. I have followed the guides on various sites, created an ad hoc network that is working but the problem comes down to ICS. I am unable to connect to internet on my laptop via ad hoc.

On my PC I have a static IP, on the wired connection I have turned on ICS to be shared to my wireless card. In wlan TCP/IP (after turning ICS on) I get 192.168.137.1 as my IP-address that I then changed to 192.168.0.1, 255.255.255.0 (empty in other fields)

I connect to the ad hoc network just fine, but there is "no network access". Laptop configuration; TCP/IP 192.168.0.2, 255.255.255.0 GW 192.168.0.1, DNS 192.168.0.1

No ping to either computer is going through. Maybe it has something to do with my static IP address? I have also tried the following: turning firewalls off on both computers, changed advanced sharing options back and forth etc. with no success (observe that surfing the web from my laptop worked once, but I just can't remember which configuration made it work )

Does anyone know where the problem lies? Firewall, network and sharing settings, TCP/IP conf.?

You can adhoc 2 ways, one is share a wireless connection (which always makes me angry) or share a wired connection (which still makes me angry).

    I would say get a router, it's $40 you'll never regret.

    I just got a new Linksys 802.11abgn 4-port router/switch - very nice! ~ $70.00 at WalMart. I agree fully - messing with using a Windows computer as a "router" is a pain.

Why not use bridging between your LAN and adhoc connection, or am i missing the point?

Reading the OP, I noticed everything else is there but the two networks are not bridged. Give it a go and come back to tell if that fixed your issue.
