No way... What happened? I held f8 while booting up, then it asked me to use system restore to an earlier point, then boom, the aero theme, wifi, everything went back to normal...

Sound like you complete a system restore. Is that what happened?

Hi Zero if you do not have the recovery discs you can use the recovery partition which is a hidden partition on your hard drive which restores your computer back to factory default settings.

It is accessed at boot time by pressing F11 or F other key it is usually displayed onscreen what key to press. Check your documentation which maybe on your computer in the form of a user guide.

Other computers you press esc key and select system recovery.

If you are unsure post the make and model of your computer on here and we will try and find the information needed on how to access the recovery partition.

But before doing the system recovery back to factory defaults please back up all your important data such as videos, music, documents, program setup files etc to an external hard drive or to CD/DVD discs.

Glad your system is restored now Safe mode runs a set of minimal drivers and can be used to troubleshoot issues, some driver of software was not running interfering with system restore so it was able to do it's job.

On your model of laptop if you need to recover from recovery partition at anytime try the following:

Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until it powrs off.

press and hold 0(zero) key and tap the power button on.

When you hear beeping release zero key

Click yes to continue at warning

    select Factory default recovery

Select out of factory default out of the box

Click next for recovery to start

I am self taught years ago when my computer stopped booting learned about hardware and operating systems with research and tinkering with stuff and learned networking.

I am just a computer enthusiast.

Glad it is now all working.

You can now mark the thread as solved if youare happy using thread tools at the top.

Microsoft is a good start if you want to learn more about operating systems and MSDN and Technet.

For hardware Intel and AMD for proceesors.

AMD and Nvidia for Gfx cards.

Learn obout compatibilty of of different hardware.

    Motherbords and PSU's.

In general i use the web for research into different tech and how they work and for troubleshooting.

This forum has lots of tutorials for how to's which will help you expand your knowledge.

If you want to learn how to build and repair there are lots of guides to get you started.

Good luck if you wish to learn more it can be fun and frustrating at times but research is where you need to start.
