    Thank you Chev65,

I downloaded the driver you suggested as well as doing some tweaks I'd found on another thread on this forum to speed up file transfers and just now tried to transfer the same 10 GB file I tried earlier this morning. It went through with no problems, so I'm hoping that the problem is resolved and better yet will stay resolved.

I very much appreciate your patients with me and all the time you took to figure this out.

That's good Linda, I figured the latest drive from just a month ago might help, between that and working with the Advanced settings you should be good to go here. :)

    Hi chev65,
Hope you remember me and this problem. I tried to transfer a 1.30GB file from the old computer to this new one with the transfer originating from the new computer and it shut me down right away, disconnected the internet connection and I had to re-boot. When the computer started up again it said Windows failed to start and I would need to insert the boot Disc to start. I'm not absolutely sure that the transfer failure caused that as I had some external hard drives connected and had been transferring data from a couple of them that had problems on them. I tried to re-start it again and fortunately it booted up correctly.

I have a Belkin router, is it possible that something in there is causing the transfer failures?

Going nuts here again, any ideas?
