Unable to establish secure Wireless Network

I've applied WPA-2 Personal encryption to my home wireless network which is recognised in Control Panel>Network and Internet>Manage Wireless Networks. When I re-start my laptop I have to manually connect to the same named, but still unsecured network in the notification area. When I do this a new network appears on my Manage Wireless Networks list of "<network name> 2", and if I repeat this process "<network name> 2 3". I am connected via this new, unsecured network. I am unable to connect via the previous, secured iterations. I'm hoping there's a pretty straightforward solution, and I have overlooked something pretty basic. Does anyone have any ideas? Yes this is true, you should remove those rogue wireless profiles as suggested by PooMan UK however,...

I believe the bigger problem is that you assumed WPA2 with AES would be applied when you set up the wireless profile in "Manage Wireless Connections" but those settings need to match the ones used when you set up your router, otherwise they won't stick.

So you should go into your routers settings to ensure that you have it properly secured. This would typically be at 192.168.x.x etc. Then create a new wireless profile using the security settings which you enabled in your router. :)

Sorted! Thanks Pooman and Chev for your suggestions. Deleted all the networks in Manage Wireless Networks, as suggested by Pooman, then went back to my router's settings and secured the network from there, as suggested by Chev. Did the trick. Thanks again for your help; I appreciate it. Cheers!
