Internet Connection Sharing help between Vista and Windows 7
I have a windows vista system that is a laptop and has a wifi connection and an Ethernet port. I am trying use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) from my windows vista laptop to get internet onto my windows 7 desktop. I plugged my crossover cable to both of the systems, and I turn on sharing on my vista wireless card but nothing happens.
ipconfig windows vista:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Link-local IPv6 Address: fe80::80af:de5e:1a70:a14%13
IPv4 Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:
ipconfig windows 7:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Link-local IPv6 Address: fe80::e03c:50a4:ab8b:9fc0%23
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address: 169.254.159.192
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: fe80::80af:de5e:1a70:a14%23
I noticed that on the windows 7 pc, the IPv4 address is 169.254.x.x instead of the usual 192.168.x.x and the Subnet Mask is 255.255.0.0. Does this make a big difference? And how would I fix this problem? Thanks in advance.
