I would like to be able to log in from any computer in the house

I have seen little $35 devices i can get that i plug into my network router and plug my computer into and my monitor into, and vouala... but id like to avoid that if possible. Yes i want to log in from any of the computers in the house, but at the same time i would like to avoid a 3d party device if at all possible. is there a way i can set this up directly on the network? I have a lot of very high end computers i dont want being bogged down my a third pary device, now no longer allowing me to use a graphics card or do anything of any real use.

If there is a way i can do this...
I already have opened ports so i can access my network publicly when i need, so could i make it so i can log in anywhere through the server? (i know this is not only a security risk but also probably a huge long shot and probably prety difficult, but it also seems kindof cool... if i cant do this, i always have 'LogMeIn' XD).

    Hi Thornton,

Have you tried setting up Remote Desktop connections?
Allow Remote Desktop connections from outside your home network
Configure Remote Desktop Access on Windows 7 Systems

There's nothing wrong using a 3rd party software, Team Viewer is another great software.

i have, which is why i brought up LogMeIn at the end there... but it is too slow.

im talking about using high end 3d and rendering apps accross a network. i would think it would involve mounting a networked drive located on a server as my primary install location, and when i run an app it is really running from the server... and no matter what computer im on i just have it set up to access that server... but it doesnt seem very professional in nature.

i spent some time on base at our local AFB, and they all used a security card to log into their computers, and their desktop looked the same nomatter what computer they logged in on, and it ran applications perfectly as though it where installed on the computer.

i agree there is nothing wrong with 3d party apps, but im needing something a little more graphics intense in nature, and i would like to set it up my self if possible... the networking experience would be good for me.

May I ask what type of Server are you talking about?

Would you like to take control of the entire computer and control it remotely or just access the shared files from the network?

i just talked to someone who has confirmed for me that they would be using a DNS... and each computer is set up with a single admin acc which is used to change the default acc location and defult install location to the DNS. when an account is created in the shared accounts folder, all computers now have access to it. no 2 computers accounts will look the same per say, but the applications will be the same because the location is on a DNS server.

this is about all i know, and i might not have it 100%... but its a start. maybe this will help give you all an idea of what im looking to do.

I think that you've misunderstood this:
May I ask what type of Server are you talking about?

Would you like to take control of the entire computer and control it remotely or just access the shared files from the network?
    and yours:
i would think it would involve mounting a networked drive located on a server as my primary install location
What type of Server? Is it an external storage device or a NAS or a Windows Server, Linux?

all i know is that the person i talked to told me it would be done on a domain name server, and i would likely be using linux

You don't have to be part of a Domain Network to take control of any computers. Your best bet and easier way is use a 3rd party software, try Team Viewer and compare it with LogMeIn.

The first thing I would do is ask the person in charge of the server for permission and help to join the server in the fashion you are wanting.
I say this because it seems to me you have no knowledge of what kind of server it is which leads me to believe it doesn't belong to you.
Special access to a server need special permission.

i have no knowledge of it because it hasnt been built yet XD lol. i am a 3d artis. the only servers i know how to build or manage protain strictly to 3d farming and distributing. i didnt think it would be easy to do this, but i gotta say i do feal a little "in over my head..." so i might look into team viewer. If this isnt as hard as im making it, im all ears, ill figure this out some other time and stick to team viewer for now, but personally i would rather use the primary login screen to login to my account and not a web browser or application if i can help it.
