Win7 Home Premium / Win XP Pro - Network Communication Problems
Hi,
I wonder if somebody can please help or point me in the right direction with the problem scenario below:-
- Dell PC is running WinXP Pro (SP3 plus updates) and Sony VAIO laptop running Win7 Home Premium
- Other Dell PC's running Win XP Pro (SP3 plus updates)
- All PC's connected via wired Etherent to a DSL router
- All PC's running McAfee Suite with Firewall active and "trusted"
- All Dell PC's (Win XP Pro) can access each other's hard disk(s) without any problems
- Sony VAIO (Win7 Home Premium) set to workgroup mode with same workgroup name as Dell (Win XP PC's)
- Both Sony VAIO and Dell PC are logged on with the same username and password for each machine.
Problem:
Both the Sony VAIO and the Dell PC are now visible with Network Neighbourhood (on either PC's), but cannot access each other's drive/directories even using the "\\computername\sharename" convention from the RUN command, even they can be seen via PING'ing their respective IP addresses.
- Tried suggestions made in this sub-forum for Advanced Sharing configurations, but still does not work
- Tried Sony VAIO C: drive shared with Everyone Full Control, but still does not work
- Tried power cycle ON/OFF for the DSL router and the Sony VAIO and Dell PC, but still does not work
- Tried disabling McAfee Personal Firewall, but still does not work
Many thanks in advance for all your help.
With kind regards.
