No internet access with my specific router

Hi, I'm running windows 7 on a Dell laptop and windows does not seem to play nice with my router. I know that the router works fine, because I can connect to it no problems with linux (which I dual-boot on this laptop), and other people in my apartment who are running windows 7/mac osx have no issues.

I also know that my windows 7 install is working fine with other routers, such as the one at my girlfriend's place or on school. So, this issue is very specific to my router and windows 7 combination.

I can detect and connect to the router just fine, but I have no internet access from there. I can't access any websites, perform any windows update or anything.

I don't really know how to start trouble-shooting this, so if someone could help me out it'd be appreciated. The router I have is a NETGEAR N150 WNR1000 wireless router. I'm not sure what other specific info would be relevant.

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Can you ping Google? See this post.

If you cannot ping Google, then can you ping your router? See this post.

Have you reset the router? Maybe it has some settings that are blocking traffic for the IP address that is being assigned to the W7 OS, but not blocking a different IP that is assigned to your Linux OS.

You can also try assigning a different DNS to the W7 OS. The bottom of this post talks about that.

From this screen shot you are connected and have a valid IP.

Which third party anti virus software do you have installed on this system? :)

It's strange, when I first boot windows, I do have some internet connectivity, and I'm able to ping both my router and google (or whatever website), but after a few minutes, I then lose it permanently.

I do not have any anti-virus software installed or third party firewalls. I installed an OEM version of windows and haven't installed anything much. I also have windows firewall disabled.

    Any ideas?

Resetting the router and updating its firmware is all that I can think of.

Have you tried going to the Windows update center using a wired connection so you can obtain the latest updates for your system? There is a good chance they will have some updated drivers that may help.

Updating the routers firmware might also help like Username mentioned.
