Basic Windows 7 File Sharing Question...

    Hi there,

I'm wondering what Win7 means when it says a file is 'Shared with: uuid:10000-0000-ect...'

Whenever I download a file to my downloads folder, at the bottom of Windows Explorer, it says the files is Shared With uuid:...and then a long string of numbers.

    What is this?

First - fill out your system specs.

Next, do you have a network at home, and are you downloading to a shared folder?

Are you using a USB storage device?

    Okay done.

I do have a home network...although I'm not even sure if I need one. I'm downloading to the Windows 7 'Downloads' Folder. I do have an external HD, but it's not shared with anything.

I'm just confused why files in this folder are shared (as well as my library folders) and what the uuid number means.

Yeah, I have a portable USB HD. But the message still shows even when it's unplugged.

Are you using 32 or 64 bit Windows 7? Do you have the Homegroup enabled? If so, try disabling it.

You wouldn't happen to have an XBox 360, or other Media Center Extender, would you?

I have connected my Xbox 360 to my pc using Media Center, and all the files that are being shared, are on my Xbox. I think this is why all your files could be being shared with the uuid.
