Loss of Internet Connectivty after connecting to VPN

I was trying to connect to my university's VPN for remote access to my files there.

Back on XP on my Acer Aspire 5612 WLMi, I would've installed
    http://www.undergrad.engineering.uto...F/ecfpcnet.zip

and then Mapped a Network Drive and I would be able to connect to H:\ on the server and retain internet connection.

On Windows 7 on my AMD Phenom X3 Desktop, the installer fails. Instead I go to Network and sharing Center and set up the VPN that way, inputting the IP and such.

The VPN connects and I am able to map my network drive and access the files on the network drive; however, while I am connected to the VPN I lose access to the internet through my LAN connection (Network & Sharing center indicates my computer is not connected to the internet. Firefox, Opera, IE can't reach google, yahoo, etc).

When I disconnect from the VPN, I get internet connection back instantly (Network & Sharing Center indicates my computer is connected to the internet and the FFox, Opera, IE all regain their ability to connect to websites).

I know this may not be very clear wording, let me know if you need more details.

    ------
    OS: x64 Windows 7 RC 7100
    CPU: AMD Phenom X3 8650
    Motherboard: ASUS M3A76-CM

Ethernet: Onboard 10/100/1000 - Using RealTek Drivers from Windows Update
Graphics: Onboard ATI HD3000 - Using AMD's Catalyst Drivers for x64 Windows 7

This probably has to do something with Windows 7 or your VPN. I also use VPN, but I use it on XP Pro. If your VPN, works great on XP, then that means that Windows 7 has a problem. You could send them feedback and ask them to fix it. Windows 7 is in its beta position which means that not everything is going to work perfectly on it.

Sounds like you need to disable the option Use default gateway on remote network. You can find this by clicking the Advanced button in the properties page of Internet Protocol Version 4 (or 6) of your VPN connection.

    Good luck,

    Hi,

I have exactly the same problem using VPN Cisco AnyConnect 2.3.2016 on Windows XP Pro.

When I use a wired or wireless internet connection, I lose internet access to my network drives and to the web with IE or Chrome when connect to VPN with that client.

On my other computer, with WinXP Pro too, when I use that client too, I keep web access, but I can't access network drives.

When using the VPN Client 4.8.02.0010, I don't have any of these problems at all on any computer.

I continue looking for some help on the net, if anyone has any idea about that, please let me know. Even if someone knows where I could search, would be helpful.

    Thx,

    Gab

    Hi Paul...

Could you guide me on how to reach that setting. I am pretty new to Windows 7... and i kinda have the same problem.... which i can describe below and have put on several other forums as well.

I have Windows 7 Enterprise (corporate image from my firm), and some additional messengers running like Skype which allows me to take conference calls outside my office network. The problem starts when I connect my VPN. Once VPN is connected, all my messengers like Skype / Google Talk automatically disconnects. And the moment I am disconnected from the VPN, and if these are still in the tray, they connect as if nothing happened. The IT in my firm is not going to support me since Skype is an external tool and they don't care anything about it. I spoke to one of my colleagues and they said probably it could be a port issue that VPN blocks.

Whats even more weird is ... VPN blocks my Firefox and makes me to add my firm's proxy address so that I can connect to other web pages. Previously, when I was on XP and if I gave the option "No Proxy", Firefox would load content from any web page (GMail, Yahoo Mail, Etc) . Now that option doesnt work, and the proxy is a must... and as a result of which my private emails get blocked (thats company policy not to open any external webmails )

    Appreciate all the help.

    Regds.
