There must be a network set up solution

Can anyone let me know if any simple software exists to allow communication between pc and another device.
I'm looking for something where I can enter one IP address to communicate with another. A bonus would be to be able to set one way or two way.
Windows software writers love to abbreviate and use stupid termology that after using computers close to 30 years I get more and more frustrated. Surely with pads and smartphones widely used setting up networking should be easy !
    Thanks

Can I ask what information you would like to share between these two devices as this will depend on the appropriate solution. If you want to just check if two devices can communicate to each other as a troubleshooting technique then you can use the ping command in command prompt. All you need to do is type ping and then the IP address of the device. For example if my tablet had an IP address of 192.168.0.10 then I would type the following command:

    Code:
    ping 192.168.0.10
    Many Thanks,

Thanks for the reply Josh, you can probably tell from my thread I was having a rant. Just wanted to search files on PC from phone and tablet and just could not get PC to show. Fixed issue running a command found on another post. But now having issue showing folders I want so will struggle with that this weekend. Still beyond me why it's all so complex!

I would like to help you with this however I need to know the make/model of the tablet or phone at which you want to access files remotely. Unfortunately Microsoft makes Windows great at sharing folders between each windows machine however when it comes to third party devices like phones it can get a bit tricky

    Many thanks,

I found a webpage on how to transfer files to and from your PC using FTP though it may not maintain a constant connection and would need to be manually enabled on the device to initiate the connection however it is a viable solution...

How to Transfer Files Between Your PC and Android Phone Wirelessly

    Hope This Helps,

    Thanks

Thanks for the info, I will have a look.

Don't have problems from the Android side it seems to be more W7 setup being over complex as usual. Sharing folders from the PC and the process to this should be easy and just happen.

I've been resetting the PC up all day and now have Automatic Priviledge and elevated Administrative rights so I'm not being nagged all the time and think back to being the boss of my own computer now so lets hope file sharing is now going to be easier to setup.

Had a Windows phone 8 years ago and linking that to XP was just easy, software writing nowadays seems paranoid and non-logical.

    Thanks again

Windows and Windows devices = Easy Sharing

Windows and Non-Microsoft Devices = Pain in the neck

Unfortunately that is how it goes however that is not say that it is impossible
