    Forgotten Router Password

    Here is my problem.
I was using a Linksys E 2500 wireless Router by Cisco. I thought it went bad, si Go bought me another new router a Linksys E 2500 again because the old was was very good. I installed the new router and set it up
worked ok , the problem was my comcast modem not my router. I replaced my modem and then hooked my old linksys router back up and save the new one for later on when my old one gave out.
That day is the present time. I was thinking that it would generate a new name and password when I set it up again so I discarded the name and password. not I cant not set it it up it promps me for the password. I tryed admin as the name and admin as the pw. wont take it at the 192.168.1.1 at the login. I have held the reset button 45 seconds I unplugged it and held the reset as I plugged it in can't login with the admin
as pw or name or as pw and no name
Anyone have any suggestion as to what to try to reset it, cant use my wireless stuff
    thanks

    Hi,

Take a look at the Linksys E 2500 FAQ page
    E2500 Frequently Asked Questions
    3. What is the default IP address, username and password used to log in to the E2500’s web-based setup page?
The default IP address of E2500 is 192.168.1.1. There is no username and “admin” is the default password.

    Hi,

Do you have the Cisco Connect software installed?

If so you will need to uninstall and re-install this software.

I would recommend using an Ethernet cable when configuring your router’s settings.

    cheers

I have reinstalled the Cisco Connect software half a dozen time It will not run setup due pervious install setup and generating a name and password on orginal install I done everything the manual told me to reset password. admin will not open up router at all in any combination with or without caps and typed as instructional says it says to type address 192.168.1.1 the linksys wants 40 bucks to talk me thru it, I will toss in the trash before I pay them that. It is Linksys made by Cisco and their site states that some their routers are setup for business and the password reset is much harder to do as a safety measure.

I would suggest removing all traces of Cisco Connect, you can use:

    Revo Uninstaller:

Download and install Revo Uninstaller free from here:

Opt for "Advanced Mode" and uninstall the software (also delete the leftover registry entries).

Then reinstall Cisco Connect and see if that works.

    cheers

    This is now solved.
The E2500 has two reset buttons one is the led and wi fi protected button and the other is hidden on the bottom of the router with a small hole to stick something into to reset it. I got all my wireless stuff up and running
