cannot share folders on Windows 7 PC with Windows 8 laptop

I have a folder full of Word documents on my Windows 7 PC that I need to share with my Windows 8 laptop. On the Windows 7 PC, I enabled all of the necessary sharing options, and then on the other computer I clicked on the map network drive. I was then able to find the folder that I wanted to access and selected it, however I got a message saying that I cannot access it. What am I not doing right?

You mentioned that the Word documents are on a Windows 7 PC but you mapped to a network drive, are those files you want to share on the Windows 7's Op system C: drive or a separate drive?

The drive containing those files is the main drive (C drive) on my Windows 7 computer. On my Windows 8 computer, I clicked on map network drive to try to access the folder. After posting my original message, I thought I would try putting both computers on the same homegroup, but I still can't share a folder.

Does your account have a password? Because there is a radio button that says "Turn on password protected sharing" in advanced sharing settings.

If your not having a password check "Turn on password protected sharing" and set a password on your account. Then access it with \\IP ADDRESS\c$

There should be no need to use the map network drive feature as this is a system drive.

Have you placed the documents into one of the Windows 7 Library folders? The Documents Library would be a good place to put those documents.

You also need to make sure that the C:>Users folder has sharing enabled on the Windows 7 machine like what is showing in the picture.
