    How to share all folders incl. children


    Have setup a small homegroup consisting of my PC (W7 Ultimate) and my Laptop (W7 Home Premium) and both see each other.
    I want to share EVERYTHING between these two.
    I don't care about dangers.
    Went to d:\, right click, share, advanced, advanced sharing, authorization, names "everyone", boxes checked, OK.
    Only- the child folders aren't shared.
    If I remember correctly this should be automatic.
    Should I set something under the Security tab?

    Could it be a problem that my PC has Dutch language (user "Iedereen" in sharing) and the Laptop has English (name Everyone).

    Wish setting up a homegroup would be easier...read "Sharing and Permissions" but that didn't make me any wiser...

    I hope that you did not try to change the permissions on the drive that has the operating system on it.

    It shouldn't be required that you share the entire C or D drive because all the User folders are located under C:>Users or which ever drive letter you are using.

    So if you require full access to the Users folder or the entire drive from another location, besides the obvious share settings on the "Sharing Tab" you also must use the "Security tab" and add the "Everyone" access there. The link shows you how.

    HDD sharing

    To set up a folder to include inheritable permissions, step 4 in the link shows the options.
    Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups

    Spent days trying to get things working as I want...
    Will try the things in suggested topics, especially the one explaining how to share entire drives.
    My confidence has almost dropped to zero though, friends...
    Right now there's NO ACCESS on both computers...sigh.

    Success!


    Thanks to the doc "Sharing drives" I've got most things sorted now...
    I just can't understand why I'm still not allowed to open My Documents, My Music etc. vice versa.
    "Everyone" is checked for full control on these folders, but things are greyed out.

    Another question:
    What happens when I make the logins automatic instead of per password?
    Will this mess up things?

    Did you use the admin share method?

    The auto-logon is not an issue.

    I'm glad the drive share link helped.

    Maybe a screen shot of where this problem is occurring, this would help me see what is going on.

    Things are working fine now, and I printed all the relevant pages in this forum- I'm pretty sure I'll forget in a few years...
    After a few resets even My Documents can be accessed vice versa!
    Will now try reverting to auto log-on on both computers, although it may not be a good idea for a theft-volatile laptop...
