Windows 7 Ultimate - Losing wireless connection

I have a Acer Aspire 4810TG with an Intel 5100AGN wireless card. I've experienced problems with data throughput with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Copying a file of 170 MB from my NAS to my laptop took 12 hours! (I cancelled after 10 minutes )
Then I installed Windows XP Professional and everything worked fast and stable. The same 170MB file transferred in around 60 seconds!

I think this shows that the problems with this wireless card are related to poor drivers. The card is physically able to connect and transfer at high speeds.

Maybe Windows 7 and Vista are also to blame. Before the copying starts, a time calculation takes place which takes for ever to finish. After that the actual copying begins.

After spending hours to solve this problem in Windows 7 and Vista, I decided to stay with XP for a couple of months and see how things develop.

I tested my wireless card on Ubuntu 9.0.4 and it looks pretty stable. It doesn't look like a hardware problem to me. But now what? Can anyone please help?

I think i might have finally found the solution. I disabled "Ad Hoc Power Management" (although I'm not familiar with it, but I read that it has to do with device-to-device wireless interaction) and I've put my laptop to sleep and woken it with no issues.

I'll need some further testing in the coming days so I'll keep you guys posted.

The problem seems to be solved. I have no idea how, but the drops haven't happened for 3 days. It probably has to do with me resetting my router and ADSL modem. That must have done it.

There seems to be a similarity between my (our) problem and the same with Vista. When the traffic gets too high, it DCs. I'm wondering if the Vista Anti-Lag put out by Microsoft would fix this issue? What brought me to this thought is that during and mmorpg the game will lag, then catch up quickly or DC altogether, but won't kick me off completely, just log me out.

Any thoughts if Vista anti-lag would work? Or how I'd go about modifying it?
