    connecting libraries from my desktop to my laptop


    I'm trying to figure out on how I can get my video library and music library on my laptop to show on my Windows Vista desktop, I can get them visible on our other laptop running Windows 8, but not the Windows Vista desktop and I also can't get the Music library from the Vista desktop to display on my laptop, please help me thank you

    ok I just opened Windows Media Player on my desktop and my music was there, but the videos are still not showing up, how can I get all of my videos to show on the desktop, when my laptop is turned on

    Library's and the Homegroup aren't really made to work with Vista. Vista doesn't use Library's, it uses My Video's, My Documents etc. which aren't the same as a Library type of folder.

    It's easier to leave the Homegroup on the Windows 8 or Windows 7 machines then use the Workgroup for sharing between those two machines.

    You just need to ensure that all machines in this network are using the same name for the Workgroup, sharing needs to be enabled through the sharing tab of the C:>Users folder and Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing etc. need to be turned on in the Advanced Sharing settings.

    You might be able to get the Vista machine access to the Library's by adding the "Everyone" access to the specified Library per the picture below. I haven't tested this with a Vista machine so not sure if this will work or not.

    This down level sharing tutorial may be helpful, this should allow you to keep the Homegroup and still have access from the Vista machine.
