Windows Freezes when Copying Files to LaCie Network Drive

You also have to have a gigabit network. If you still want to go the way of network drives. I would recommend the Belkin network usb hub. I have this, and works brilliantly (under comp vista mode). This device is 4port, but will accept up to 16 devices connected thru or to it. I have 8 devices connected to it now. Of course if you decide to hook up a usb hub TO the network usb hub, make sure the usb hub is 2.0 compliant or you will see slow speeds that way as well.

As I wrote, my entire network and all appliances are gigabit.

The LaCie disk is returned and I have ordered a Netgear SAN with a 1TB disk. This SAN reaches speeds between 30MB/s and 40MB/s according to several tests. Hope to have it delivered next week.

you should get faster speeds than that... you should see those speeds on a good wireless N setup. What type of router are you using? What firmware? I would lean towards the router you are using. With those speeds you are only be utilizing 4% of the total gigabit network speed.

what speeds were you seeing under XP with the other network drive?

30MB/s - 40MB/s is much faster. Remind the capital B for bytes, not bits.
Getting a transfer speed of 30-40MB/s on a network drive seems pretty good. In the tests I have seen, no NAS came over that kind of performance.
