    laptop doesn't connect to internet

i recently upgraded a laptop from vista to windows 7, but now when i connect to the modem either through wifi or cable most of the time it comes up with being connected to the router but cannot connect to the internet. through lots of modem and wifi restarts it does eventually connect. but what could be the problem? do i perhaps get some updated driver firmware?

Sorry for late reply now this is an old machine and the best I can do is for you to run Speccy and post the info as I have in the pic if you want the driver for net connection. My searches have come up with virtually nothing of any use.
The machine itself looking at the specs of an old processor very little RAM I would reckon it would be pushing it to run a 32bit 7 OS to be honest.

Anyhow try wha I have said but in all fairness the machine was made to run Vista and I suspect not that fast or efficiently at thta
Sorry if this is not what you want to hear but with the low end specs a 7 OS is going to be hard to run.

Speccy - Download and post back that shot.

i see so do you believe that if i put windows vista back on the system that the problems would be fixed? because i would be quite willing to do that.

Well lets put it like this if you want to run Windows 7 then if it were me I would put in another 2GB RAM to at least give you 4GB.

Personally I would put in a new hard drive buy an OEM copy of Windows 7 OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer - it is about a third of the cost of the retail version and is used by the major manufacturers and folks like myself who build their own computers. Because you have upgraded the RAM and replaced the hard drive it allows you to get that and install it but ONLY on that machine.

Now you have to weigh up the cost of more RAM DDR2 is harder to get now and can be quite expensive and hard drive - not too bad and the OEM so for example if the RAM cost $35 the hard drive $50 and the OEM $100 for $185 you get a fairly good machine as compared to what you have now.
But for say another $250 you could get an up to date machine and not have this hassle.

Sorry mate but it is as best as I can suggest and I appreciate it not what you wanted to hear but I have to be honest.

You could try say Newegg for the bits I mentioned for the costs as I am quoting about what I would be paying for out here which is generally a bit more than US prices.

+ICit2lol You know, of course, that the extra cost of computer parts in AUSSIE-land is cuz they have to specially program them suckers to run upside-down for extended periods....

ok we have vista back on there. the laptop has sped up a lot. but im still having problems connecting to the internet. i run a troubleshoot and it tells me it tryed to ping the primary server 172.16.0.1 but didnt get a responce, on my router/modem it has 192.168.0.1, does that mean the laptop is trying to connect through the wrong place?
