Limited Acces, Connection is good, but no Internet acces.

    Hi,

Ive got an Asus K55VD, with an Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter and a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (not sure if the last one is of any importance).
The problem is that I keep losing my acces to the internet, although the connection with the router seems to be fine. A Yellow Exclamation point will show up, and under the SSID it will say Limited Acces. It is very annoying as it happens almost every five minutes. I've tried alot of things to fix this, such as unticking the Power Saving option and disableing the connection IPv6.

I hope to get some suggestions which would hopefully lead to a sollution.

Any help would be much appreciated,

    Leonard

Following this thread will help give us some more information as to what the possible cause is - Basic Requirements Before Posting your Networking Thread

Does it happen to any other devices on the network? Do the lights on the router change more importantly does the internet light on the router change at all?

    Many Thanks,
    Josh :)

First off, the Basic Requirements Before Posting Your Network Thread:
    1. Is this a wired or wireless connection issue?

    Its Wireless only

    2. Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

    Ziggo.

    3. What type of Broadband connection are you using?

    Cable

    4. What is the exact Make and Model of your Modem, Router or Modem/Router Combo - Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, TP-LINK, etc.

Its a Modem/Router Combo from Linksys, Cisco EPC 3928

    5. What is the Name of the Anti-Virus, Security or Firewall Software

    Im running McAffee.

    Now to answer your questions:

This problem only occurs on my laptop, even though we have got several in usage. There are no abnormal light or lights blinking when they shouldn't on the modem/router. I am pretty sure the problem lies with my laptop, because due to other networking problems we have changed the router and even the modem several times in the last months. Now we finaly got this Modem/Router combo from our provider and this solved all problems, except this one. This problem has survived the mutiple router and modem replacements, multiple reinstallements of Windows 7 and windows 8. I downgraded my laptop from windows 8 to windows 7 only last week, and for the first days it seemed the problem was solved, but then it happened once, and throughout last week it is happening more frequent to the point where it happens almost every 10 minutes at times. I am beginning to worry that it might be a faulty network card, is this possible?

A faulty network card is possible. Are you able to test network connectivity with another wireless network? Possibly a friend or relatives? Or maybe a public hotspot?

This will greatly help us in determining whether a setting needs to be changed on your router or if there is an issue with the laptop itself to which we made need to find a new driver or possibly a third party application causing the issue however since you have done multiple re-installations I doubt this is the issue unless you installed any applications which began causing the faults however that is for later troubleshooting.

Also, can you try an temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and firewall applications since these can be major suspects in network connections.

    Many Thanks,
    Josh :)

I will see if the problem occurs on other networks when I have the chance. In the meanwhile, I'll shutdown Mcaffee and Windows Essentials(If it is currently turned on). Ill post again in a few hours to see if the problem will occur again.

Many thanks Josh, I greatly appreciate this!

This particular Atheros NIC is famous for having driver compatibility problems with certain routers. Same complaints about this strange disconnection problem all over the place. See if this one works Shadowjk. The Op should also enable IPv6 as it's not the problem.

The latest cz driver version is supposed to work the best, I've taken the time to download and attach this driver just to avoid confusion with errant downloads of incorrect garbage.
