    OS cannot detect wireless adapter

After I turned the computer back from sleep, the Wi-Fi function disappeared on my laptop. I'm using an old HTC Wildfire S as a Wi-Fi hotspot after the USB modem got broken and connection works well on two Samsung tablets (the carrier is Smart Mobile in Cambodia). And I can download or browse the web normally when connecting through USB tethering from the smartphone.

I looked for Samsung RV413 drivers and tried installing QCA_WLAN_Driver_1.0.0.1 and WLAN_Atheros_Win7_9.2.0.470 and the wireless adapter worked only once after a restart but after turning on from sleep, it was gone again. It's gone completely, it's not showing up in Device Manager, no yellow icon.

In Manage Wireless Networks it says "The wireless is currently disabled". The Fn+F9 doesn't work nor is there any Wi-Fi button on the laptop. I installed Easy Display Manager for Fn keys but it's not working and I also looked into the BIOS at startup but I don't see anything strange.

In Change Adapter Settings there are only Local Area Connection (for network cable) and Local Area Connection 2 (for HTC hotspot).

The WLAN AutoConfig in services.msc is set to Automatic and restarting it or restarting the computer doesn't fix it.

Unfortunately System Restore option was disabled, so the few restore points I have don't fix it either.

Yesterday I did a long Windows Update, didn't help, and also disabled the firewall and restart. Nothing.

I can also do wishful thinking but I hope the wireless adapter isn't dead yet. It worked once after installing drivers but then it was gone again. Is there anything else to try?

Hello and welcome Celeste. Now can you post a shot of the Device Manager for us to see what WLAN you have installed.

Device Manager won't detect anything even after installing and restarting. There's only one Realtek family controller installed and another HTC driver shows up after connecting USB tethering.

Hmm Celeste a bit hard to sat without seeing what is in the Device Manager but out of curiosity how old is the machine? I am thinking maybe the wireless adaptor has gone bad or there is a connection lost inside the machine.
I am assuming this is a fairly new machine if so maybe a warranty job.

Now I see it also has a cable option have you tried it?

Now you mentioned you downloaded the driver for the WLAN just where di you get it from? this list is the Samsung site and has a few manufacturers on it and why we need to know what device you have installed. NP-RV413I - DOWNLOADS | SUPPORT | SAMSUNG
