Ethernet stopped working after Windows Update

Hi guys, this is my first post so let me know if I missed anything or need to include more descriptions about my computer/problem.

After the last windows update my wired internet stopped working. I tried right clicking in the device manager to update the drivers when connected to WiFi which tells me that I have the most updated driver. I also tried manually downloading the Drivers and installing them but still have the same problem.

When I look in device manager it gives me the message. "This device cannot start. (Code 10)."

    Computer Specs:
Ethernet: Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection
    Motherboard: Asus P8P67 Deluxe
    Ram: 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1333MHZ
CPU: Intel Ivy Bridge i7-3770k @3.50 GHz

Thanks in advance for the help!

Have you tried rolling back to before you installed the update using Windows System Restore?

Yes and it did solve the problem temporarily until I accidentally let the updates install again. I'm hoping there is another solution rather than restoring again and never allowing windows updates.

You need to isolate which update is causing your distress.
You could install them one at a time till you find it, then do System Restore, and then hide it.
That way you can get all other updates, but avoid the problem one.

Also a good idea to post in the Windows Updates forum here which update is causing your troubles. Someone may know what is going on.

Another option is to download the drivers for the device which is acting up, run the updates, uninstall device drivers, then reinstall using your previous download. This would be the least amount of work and will likely resolve your issue.

So its working now. When I rebooted my machine the Ethernet controller in device manager was showing up as not working (not the network connection which previously was showing the issue). When I clicked re install drivers it is magically fixed. Possibly related to me updating my BIOS a few days ago? Not sure but anyways it is working thanks for your reply's!

    ** Update **
So not even half a day after I posted this it stopped working again. I figured out that it would work when I rebooted my machine and then stop working again shortly after my machine was turned on. Upon trying to manually re-install the drivers I came across an error message stating that the controller was in "deep sleep" which led me to this thread http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/...leep-mode.html. which ultimately helped me solve my problem.

The long and short of it is that you have to turn off your computer, unplug it, take out the CMOS battery and wait for a few minutes. Then when you restart go to device manager, find the Ethernet controller (Realtek in my case), click on properties, power management and un-check the option that says allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. That's what has solved it for me.
