I have solved my problem connecting to the Internet by going to the Security tab in IE8 and lowering its' slider to the bottom. Now I can connect. Avira still can't get updates but that may be a different problem.

just tried this and it worked also then reset back to default level but unticked the "enable protected mode" and now all is working

While on your admin account, which connects, you might try installing Firefox browser, and seeing it it then works on your user account. You will then be certain the problem is with your ie8 settings

    My solution was different

I couldn't connect my new W7 machine to my wireless router, like many others posting on this thread. But my solution was to change my router's settings, ever so slightly. My router was set up to use WEP security using a Shared Key. No matter what I did to make my W7 machine match these settings, nothing worked. I finally had to change the router setting from Shared Key to Automatic. Voila! Now it works.

Had this problem after I upgraded a clients HP Pavilion DV7 with Realtek NIC to Windows 7 from Vista.

Ran the Norton Removal Tool to fix the problem.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to remove your Norton 2006 product or later version

    Reboot after running the tool!

    Norton products = EPIC FAIL!

IE for windows 7 can't connect

I have a new pc with windows 7 installed which has been working fine for about two months but starting yesterday IE displays the Connecting... message but never connects to the internet. After several minutes I have to click the X icon to close out at which point I get the Internet Explorer is not responding message.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong with it? I'd download a new version of IE but can't seem to find a place where I can do that.

    Thanks in advance,

    D.R.
