Can't create shortcut to a shared folder on another node

Using Win 7 Pro Sp1.

Need to be able to make a shortcut for CAD guys to have access to a share on an WinNT driven mold machine. The mold machine and Win 7 workstations are on the same subnet and workgroup. When I set up the shortcut, I am asked for a UserID/password, that inevitably fails. The UserID/password works fine on Vista, XP and Win2000 machines, but Win 7 will not connect after submitting the UID/Pass. Tried using the <hostname of NT box>\userID in place of just the plain userID; made no difference.

Turning off the firewall makes no difference.

For what it is worth, I can user explorer on the WINNT interface and pull files from the Win 7 box. This workaround is not desirable because as good as the machinists are at their job, they are rather ham-fisted with the OS!

What am I missing with regards to file shares or networking with Win 7?

Thanks.

It sounds like an authentication problem which is fairly common when you try to access older machines.

If you have Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise try the adjustments outlined in the link below.

As stated above, we're using Windows 7 Pro.

Followed the instructions in the link you've provided. After reboot, problem is resolved. Was able to make the shortcut to transfer files to the NT box. Appreciate the help. Thanks.
