Cannot Setup Wireless Network (Belkin N1 Network Card)

I'm trying (desperately) to set up my network on Windows 7, but have hit a bump in that it just cannot find my network.

I checked Device Manager to see if the card was found - it was with a troubleshoot exclamation point on it.

I removed the card, used the installation disc and am not able to get very far. After the install (after which nothing happens), I click on the Belkin Wireless Networking Utility icon on the desktop and it says "missing shortcut: searching for Belkinwcui.exe", after which I get a window saying "The item Belkinwcui.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed of moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly".

That exe file isn't anywhere in my computer, searching through Explorer. In fact, in the Belkin install folder (Program Files (x86) -> Belkin ->FSD8001v1...) there just looks like maybe a driver (AegisE5.dll) and an application (AegisI5) that doesn't run.

My next choice, I guess is to take my PC upstairs and line it into my modem/base station directly, but I'd rather not move it.

Am I missing something? Why won't this work? How come I can't install my Wireless Card?

Please help, if you can. Thanks.

I'm experiencing an almost identical issue. I had the same problems with the installation disc. After multiple install / unistall / restarts I was able to get the client installed. However, when I click to open the .exe nothing happens.

On top of that, the system is not recognizing the card. I tried all 4 PCI slots with no success.

I installed this same card (same model, different physical card) on a pc running xp sp3 very easily. Since that was so easy I bought another card for my windows 7 machine.

However, I was lazy and didn't do any research. Before I came upon this forumn I found a couple of google links saying this card was incompatible with vista (therefore incompatible with w7?).

Any else out there get this card working?

Yeah it's a very frustrating thing, especially since Seven is supposed to be so user friendly. Heck, my first experience out of the box with it was bad (trying to do a clean install of 64bit on my 32bit XP...)

TheOG: sorry I didn't mention it before, but downloading drivers from Belkins site, and putting them on a USB was one of the first steps I took. It didn't work. I get another error message when I do that.

Any updates jblan? Or anyone? I'd sure like to be able to move my PC back downstairs.

Just to follow up in case anyone is having the same troubles -

I went and bought a new Network Controller Card today, a Linksys Rangeplus, which installed and worked immediately. I'm actually getting better speeds with it than I was my Belkin N1.

Found this solution from a G series user.

Uninstall any unsuccessful attempts at installation. Get the latest driver version from Belkin, copy it to your hard drive, change the compatability to vista sp2. install and reboot.

This worked for me after a few hours of frustration. Good to see windows running true to form. lol. soon be time for a service pack of our own again.

    Anyway, hope this helps someone.

Thanks Moonwatcher - this solution works perfectly. I was up and running minutes after reading your reply.

My problem was that I had actually grabbed the wrong drivers from belkins site (version 2xxx instead of 1xxx).

Clintashlock I know you went out and bought a new card, but for anyone else with this problem, here's where I got the drivers.

    Belkin : Support : F5D8001 N1 Wireless Desktop Card - Drivers

To find out if you need 1xxx or 2xxx check the serial number sticker on the box your card came in. In the lower right corner it will have the version.

    Thanks again Moonwatcher!

I'm glad that fix worked for you jblan -

For what it's worth I tried everything you guys tried and it didn't work for me. I even thought the sp2 workaround was a little bit of creativity that I'd be able to smugly come back here and say worked!

However, it didn't, and I didn't report anything other than the new card I promptly went out and bought. Oh well. I'm sure I did something wrong, but, hey.

I do like the Linksys card better - definitely like that the antennae stay plugged in!!
