Windows 7: Losing internet connectivity

Kill two birds with one stone.
Create and boot* to Kaspersky's Rescue Disk. It has a browser that you can use with the LAN cable (wired connection) to see if you can surf AFTER you lose connectivity using Windows 7. Then go ahead and scan the computer for infections.

If you can surf using the rescue disk...
...then we should concentrate on your software

If you can not surf using the rescue disk...
...then we should concentrate on your network hardware.

That said, Shadowjk's idea of testing on another network (fiend/relative/coffee house) might be easier.

*You might want to put Kaspersky's Rescue Disk onto USB.

When the VPN runs, you might require a proxy setting to be changed in order to surf. Some companies provide an app to automatically toggle that proxy setting.

Windows 7 Professional

Josh, I took my laptop to a friends house yesterday who have a wireless network. However, their son who normally sorts out their IT wasn't at home and they didn't know the logon. So although my laptop could see the WiFi's around there, including a couple of hot spots I couldn't try to see if I could connect to any sites - so gave up and had a drink! However, bringing my laptop back home yesterday it seems to be working fine now - how weird is that?

Hmmm... And you never connected at all, just viewed available wireless networks? I am not entirely sure what has solved this...

Keep monitoring and please report back on any further disconnections then we can investigate further

Josh :)

Issue losing connectivity when computer sleeps
Hello, I recently installed Windows 7 (32-bit). I love everything about it except one major thing that seems to be a common problem, from the research I've done. Whenever the computer sleeps or goes in to standby mode, about 80% of the time when I come out of it, it loses the network...
