How do you transfer files if a win 7 goes to sleep

I have a desktop running win 7 Prof and a laptop running win 7 home.If both machines are a wake I have no problem transferring files. But If one goes to sleep I can not transfer files. There is probably a easy way of fixing this . So how can I do this.

To my knowledge, no there isn't... Sleep mode suspends any harddisk activity and response from network requests. Some applications allow the waking of a machine using the network card since it is still technically active however immediate transfer of resources are not possible.

You can turn of sleep function and at the very minimum turn off the display if power is a concern. This tutorial may help:

I would think that using one of the wake on Lan utilities or setting up a magic packet in Windows 7 would work for this. It might also help to turn off the 20 minute limit for the harddrive in power options. Lots of to tutorials for this.
