PC connects to router instead of modem.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me. I have my internet such that my internet is coming directly from my modem to my PC. I have a network cable going from my modem to wireless router as well so I can get wi-fi for my other devices. My PC, for whatever reason automatically connects to my router instead of the modem which is directly hard lined into the PC, and this is slowing down my internet speed. I know how to tell my PC to connect to my modem instead of the router each time I turn on my PC, but I was wondering if there's an option to permanently set it so it reads from the modem 100% of the time as opposed to going for the wi-fi connection. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hello and welcome Nate do I have it right you have a modem and a router?

If so why have you got wifi running - for other users? in any case your PC should just pick up the wifi which should run at full speed in any case?

My own set up is a TP-Link modem/router and I just plug the phone connection into it and then the other machines into the ports - maybe a better option for you??

Using a similar setup, am simply disabling the wifi (right click > disable).

Yep that is much as what I did only I did it by changing the settings in the modem/router itself.
Trouble is until the OP gets back to us with what set it actually is we are flying blind.

    You are doing this incorrectly.

There is no reason to plug the modem directly into the PC, you can get wireless without doing this very easily, I believe you are confused on how this works.

It's Modem>router>PC's both wired and wireless, this way all PC's will be in the same subnet so you can easily share files etc..
