    Not sure what that means?


    I am not really clear about " Windows -- System Error A duplicate name exists on the network " Are they talking about two same name on the network? Yes I do have a laptop and desktop with the same name, " Mackay " If not then I am not sure what that means above? Yes I did search on google and came up with lots of comments and no idea which one is more suitable to my question?

    Your help would be appreciated!

    It means precisely what you already suspected: two computers belonging to the same network or domain cannot have the same name. You have to rename one or another.

    Thank you Kari for your time to reply to my message. Now what am I suppose to do to change the name on the network? I will change one on my laptop and leave my desktop as is. How do I change this?

    Open System Properties (right click Computer and select Properties on Start Menu > right pane, or Control Panel > System):

    Click Change:

    Give the PC a new name, click OK to save settings, accept reboot suggested by the system:
