Can't connect to University VPN

I installed 7 yesterday and so far I'm loving it :)

Unfortunately, I can't connect to my uni VPN. I followed these instructions (which are for Vista):
Vista

When I connect, it tries to verify the user name and password but after about 40 seconds it stops and shows me an error 619. Anyone know what I should do?

I have a Vaio C1S

Nope, but I'll be doing that if its still not working on Monday.

I know some people who have been able to set it up. I only decided to do it today because I need access to some of my files.

Well that's exactly what I did and it hasn't worked. I think I'll ask IT support on Monday.

This is the error I get if it helps:

Where did you get your drivers? Did you let Windows find and install them, or did you download them from Sony? Do you have any security software installed, like Norton, NOD32, etc? Have you opened all of the requried ports on your computer's firewall? Have you tried disabling your computer's firewall?

I'm assuming you had no problems with your previous operating system?

I've never used the uni VPN before. I just asked someone to try it with his account on his Mac and it worked. I then told him to try with my username (with the wrong password) and he gets the same error ("a connection could not be established with the PPP server").

I've tried it with 3 other computers all running XP and I get the same error. I even tried with wrong usernames and passwords and still get the same error :S

It appears from the info supplied, it is not an OS issue. It indicates you are connecting and then getting disconnecting. You probably do not have the VPN client or SSL web client installed. Check with the IT support person for detailed installation instructions and location of where you can download the client software. Some companies, institutions use either the IPSEC protocol supported by the OS or installed in a client install. Some prefer the browser based SSL VPN tunnel which usually requires Java installed.

Go back to your friend with the Mac. Use your username with the correct password. Does it connect?

It now works on a PC running XP. I disabled the firewall and it worked. Disabled Windows firewall on my laptop and it hasn't solved it.

It works! Disabled my antivirus (MS security essentials)

Unfortunately, I can't access any files on my linux account so its all been a bit pointless :sarc:
