    Red cross in the tray

    I have a red cross over connection icon in the tray:

    While the internet is working well, the cross icon is quite annoying.

    I HAVE the icon, it just has the red cross over it. Do you see the picture above?

    Don't be fooled by the title or topic of the old tread that I pointed you too. The info/fixes might apply here too. Try clearing that icon cache using CCleaner.

    The problem is not with the icon cache, unfortunately :-(

    As you know, it is showing the icon normally associated with a disabled adapter.

    What happens if you disable (just as a test) the wireless network adapter.

    Does the icon change at all?

    Yes, when trying to connect it shows the sun symbol.

    So...
    disabled = red x
    connecting = blue spinning circle
    connected = red x

    What does the tool tip say when you hoover the mouse over that icon?

    But in the connection's state sheet it shows that neither IPv4 nor IPv6 are connected. Yet the Internet works!
