Diniesh, has a point. It could be the drivers you have installed currently. The defualt windows drivers may be the solution.

I hope this helps. I am running the same board as you and after the fiasco I had last night installing the downloaded version of 7 via iso, to the dvd's getting bad burns, to finally getting on only to have my net not connect...ugh..I was finding myself wanting to jump into the screen of that mac commercial and tell the "This time's gonna be different, I promise" guy that he had no idea.

Im a programmer by trade, so the typical hot fixes were everything I tried before getting on the net and seeing if anyone else had similar issue I have. I believe I saw you are running 64 bit, so I will ask you this...I did not see you list your memory or I am too tired from being up till 8am to remember, but if you are running more than 2gb of ram it will cause the on board nic card to fail.

I have 5gb of ram installed, the whole reason I bought windows 7 was to finally utilize directx 10 programs I will be working on. I couldn't believe when I read this, tried everything else I possibly could to get it to work only to finally pull out 3gb of ram and poof....internet access.

I have heard it still doesn't help, but I am heading to Best Buy to find a cheap pci nic card to install and see if I can get around this issue. If not looks like I will finally be upgrading my board. Didn't want to do this until the i7 came down or something unveiled itself worthy of an upgrade.

Trust me, there is no new driver. I have seen guys posting about this who have had marvell personally in their conversations they posted. 64 bit support for this board is second to zero, the wrong way. I suggest getting an alternative board, or if this pci board fixes it I will be on to post my findings. Sorry you are having the same problems as I am, I can design and develop a game but when this wouldn't work I really was getting frustrated.

Just remember one thing always. Typically Windows won't give you all that many issues, and if you have to go through hell and high water like this then generally I begin to look towards a hardware failure somewhere, and sure enough with my case that was exactly it.

Thanks Marvell, I've now lost an entire day because of your fantastic on board nic card being of japan dishware quality.

Also about drivers, uninstall the one you have to nothing. Then restart windows and I can almost bet when you do and it comes up prior to windows completing it's install of the driver again it will look like your net is going to connect. Again, it won't. This is a faulty hardware issue.

Well Im back from best buy. I purchased a cheap $18 Network card and it works perfectly now with 5gb ram. If you are running more than 2gb of ram with the P5NSLI motherboard then it is a must you run an alternate network source.

Hope this helps. Im thrilled it works. Seems to run slower with 5gb ram like another person said. Im dead set that this motherboard is just a pos.

Hello. Yes I am running 6gb of RAM.

Would you please tell me what it was that you bought. -brand and model if you could.. I'd like compare it and make sure I'm getting one that will work...

Thanks a lot!

do you really think its the mobo slowing you down? because thats ridiculous to have to upgrade so soon. well, I guess 3yrs isn't a short time, especially in pc world, but the hardware should still last longer than this.

Could a cheap network card result in slower internet performance?

**edit. I looked at bestbuy.com, and it looks like u probably picked up the Dynex?

Would getting a nic that supports 1000mbps increase speed at all.. or I'm kinda of assuming thats for business type networks..?

I did the un-installation of the network device, rebooted, waited and plugged in the cable. it didn't connect... so I waited a bit, then reinstalled the windows 7 drivers... and still nothing...

I'm going to head out to bestbuy and buy a new nic right after I learn what I need to know. I'll then be back and post the conclusion of that.

Yes the new network card will make a tremendous difference in speed and getting it to work properly. Yes I bought the dynex. The 1000mb cards are primarily used for local network file transfers. If you're using it for the net and things like that there is no way you will saturate the 10/100 mb allotted on the card. Let me know how it works out Ill be checking back in periodically to see what happened.

Oh ok thanks. for your first part though, I was referring to a cheap card versus a more expensive card - say, might there be a difference in $18 nic vs a $40 one? (not considering if it supports higher speeds or not - only comparing ones with 10/100)
