No you should see no difference. I don't think you would be doing anything more intense then what I do with programing, sql, etc...and I do pretty intense gaming and haven't seen a bit of difference between the two. Save yourself the money and grab the cheapo.

Also once I put it in I disabled and uninstalled the marvell and then the computer became a lot more responsive. The downed on board nic seems to cause havoc in the system making that 6gb of ram feel like you are running 512mb. Havent restarted to see if windows will re-install it but I have created a small shortcut on the desktop to make it a double click removal each time I log into windows if so. Worth it for the response you get once disabling it and having a pci card installed.

Glad to help, after what I was going through I could only be happy to pass on the great feeling I had when I finally overcame the issue today.

It worked!
and good idea about uninstalling the Marvell permanently. the last couple times I rebooted it gave me a warning screen saying the lan cable wasn't found and I had to press F1 to continue with the boot. Uninstalling should take care of that hopefully.

Thanks a lot for everyone's help. I really appreciate it!

Win 7 X64

Dear Asclepius,

I, unfortunately, am experiencing the exact same problem you did with Win 7 X64 networking as this forum thread so clearly describes.

I bought a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc., and installed Win7 X64 on it, only to discover that I could not connect to my LAN, Router or ISP with the on-board network interface. I too, bought another network interface adapter (a PCI one) and installed it on my brand new Win 7 X64 computer, after disabling the onboard network interface (manufactured by Realtek). I did this last night. Unfortunately, the PCI network card did not resolve my problem. I am, unfortunately, unable to use networking, and I have tried everything that was suggested to you in this forum, including configuring a static route, and every other manner of action that I hoped might resolve the problem.

I have not yet removed memory from my motherboard, but I believe you said this was unnecessary after you installed an add-on NIC. Can you tell me which network interface card you bought, that worked?

What a bummer.

Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Cvanhyn

Sorry that it's been 4 days, I haven't been home to check my email.
Well, I don't think I can tell much more. The nic card that I bought was a Dynex 10/100, probably the cheapest one they had ($20 or less). I did need to check that it was for a 32-bit pci slot. Other than that it also says that its Windows Vista compatible. (I'm sure you did this but did you plug your cable into the pci card and not back in to the mobo? 'cause I went to do this at first!)
Also have you tried connecting it straight to the modem w/out the router?

I would suggest making a new post and referring to this one with a link. I'm sorry I cant help more.

Hope you get it resolved soon,
Asclepius
