Cannot get a valid IP configuration with new Ethernet adapter

I have an HP p6616 desktop that came with a Realtek PCIe FE Family Ethernet adapter that cannot exceed a speed of 10 Mbps. After working with an HP customer support rep, he concluded that I had a bad set of chips. I purchased another Ethernet adapter, Realtek PCIe GBE Family, and I cannot get it to connect to the internet. Troubleshooting continually gives the “Invalid IP Configuration” message. I tried the new adapter on another Windows 7 computer and it worked beautifully. I have tried many of the suggestions on this forum, but nothing has solved the problem, it is still getting an IPv4 address of 169.254.x.x.

ipconfig /all is attached below. In this case, the new adapter with the invalid IP configuration is “Local Area Connection”, and the old adapter is “Local Area Connection 2”.

Not sure if you have tried this or not and it may sound kinda obvious; but; have you tried the ipconfig /renew? Also; you could also try updating the drivers via the link below:

Yes, I have tried ipconfig /renew several times before, but I'm glad you mentioned it. I didn't explain that it gives me an error for Local Area Connection -- unable to contact your DHCP server.

I don't get that error for any other connections.

Also, I thought I had the most recent driver, but I found one slightly newer by following your link.

    Thanks
