Windows 7: Ethernet Connection Lost (and Found?)

If you're posting, definitely check your Event Viewer (go to Start, Search, type in Event Viewer and hit enter.. then go under Windows Logs, System) for events like this:

Name resolution for the name teredo.ipv6.microsoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

The error code is 1014.

For me, they are occurring exactly when my internet connection goes plort, and seem to be bringing on the failure rather than simply being a side effect of it. Receive Side Scaling doesn't seem to have any effect... I thought it did at first, but no.

Thanks for the suggestion, i have set it and will report back. Looking at this page though it seems like a nice thing to have on:

What is "receive side scaling" means ? when you wanna make a team on 2003 windows server? - Yahoo! Answers

Me too, but the more i think about it the more it seems to me this is simply a message telling us that our connection to a server was timed out. This is easy to achieve, wait until your connection is crapping out then in command line type in "ping -t www.yahoo.com" and you will get plenty of time outs.

I do think whatever is wrong may be getting reported in the Event Viewer somewhere though, i've just never used it to trouble shoot a networking problem so i'm not sure where to look

i've been encountering the same issue i believe. to clarify.
internet connection stable with no activity.
very light useage does not drop connection.
anything cpu intensive (ie. games, large file transfers, streaming, watching blue-ray) drops the connection.

Motherboard/NIC: evga 780i sli with 2 onboard gigabit controllers
Wired or Wireless: wired
CPU Architecture: intel core2 quad
Upgrade or Clean Install: upgrade or clean install x64
Driver details: nvidia 73.1.4.0
Problem description: connection drops under cpu load
Solutions or Suggestions: the only solution i've had work reliably is to connect both ethernet lines and bridge them, disableing settings did not work, rolling back to stock ethernet driver did not work

Well the Side Receiving thing did not fix the issue with me either.

I also just realized that i had been connecting through my LAN port 2, not 1, so i've switched back to 1 to see if it does anything.

Bridge them? Great idea, I now have 2 Ethernet adapters, so if the problem occurs again, I will try that.

It's simple, you go in the Network cards view, you select 2 cards, you right click and choose "Bridge connection"

Yeah but what is involved in using both ports for one connection? What's this adapter thingy?

As it stands my window looks like this:

It's still connecting, but will it cause any other issues?

Yes, you will need 2 connections, 2 cables.

I don't know if there will be other issues, I think you won't get the IP you would have with only one connection.

Windows 7 Home Premium Family (32 bits)

Hi all,

Same issue for me on Windows 7 Home Premium Family (32 bits)

  • Motherboard type : Asus P5Q3
  • Wired or Wireless (or both) : Wired
  • CPU Architecture (x86 or x64) : Intel Core Quad Q9550
  • Upgrade or Clean install : Clean install (it's a totally new computer!)
  • Driver details : Windows drivers, updated via Windows Update => Realtek RTL8168C
  • Problem description (LAN? Internet? Frequency?): Losing connection with the router ; paquets lost when I ping it. Internet connection almost impossible.
  • Solutions or Suggestions: What I've already tried => drivers changed, reboot router, cable changed, chipset drivers updated, ipv6 deactivated... I also tried to boot with Ubuntu 8 live CD : I noticed no internet/lan connection issue.
Thanks all for your help!!

Tried removing the router and plugging my modem directly into pc today, still had the problem so it's not the router.

Eventually i will perform a completely new install on another hard disk and find out if the problem persists on that.
