    Internet Connectivity

I just bought a new laptop with Windows 7. I was trying to hook up a wireless router the computer. I followed the instructions, but there was an error so the wireless connection was never completed. Before I tried to set up the wireless router I connected straight to the modem with an Ethernet cord, now when I try to do that it states that I have little or no connectivity. Now I cannot connect through either the wireless router or the ethernet cord, how do I get the internet connection to work again using the Ethernet cord?

I have narrowed the problem down. I have a motorola cable modem from comcast and my wireless router is a netgear WGR614. I am having trouble connecting to the internet and I noticed my IP address is no longer valid. I tried to renew the ip address, but i keep getting an error stating that my media is disconnected. Is there anyway to solve this problem to get a new IP address?
