Laptop internet turns off when lid closed

I have an hp laptop windows 7 64-bit, fully updated via windows update. I sometimes hook my laptop up to my TV via HDMI cable. (I am connecting to the internet and network via wireless card) I have it set in power options so that when the lid is closed "do nothing", unfortunately when the lid closes the internet doesn't respond and says there is a problem with the DNS server when there isn't any problem at all because all of the other devices on the network are working completely fine. Also the internet people ran a diagnostic and it's perfectly fine at almost 6 megs down.

I figured there was a problem with it when I close the lid the internet stops responding as for when the lid is opened the internet is fine. I went into the device manager and went to the properties of my wireless networking card and in there to power management and unchecked allow computer to turn off to save power or something like that. Anyways I'm at a lost I'm not sure what else to do. It seems the computer is still connected to the network just not the internet. I would like to be able to close the lid and internet browse on my tv if possible.

    Thank you

Try using High Performance profile in Power Management.

How long does the lid have to be closed for this to happen?

btw if you get the "do nothing" part to work, I have a utility that lets you run a program when the lid is closed, opened or just lock the screen on lid close. It's called LidOnIt

It's free for you to use at your own risk.

Edit: at the bottom of the first post in the thread you'll see the attachment, LidOnIt.zip

Sounds like somewhere something is set to detect lid close and do something. Hmmm.

Edit: did you check both plugged in and battery settings are Do Nothing?

I don't understand the utility let's you run programs even when the lid is closed and locked? Does this solve the issue with the internet connectivity on lid closing?

I'm not exactly sure I want to install a third party program if I can solve this issue on the computer itself. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I am constantly plugged in so I only changed the plugged in state to do nothing. Like I said also I am still connected to the network just not the internet for some reason.

I would suggest changing everything to Do Nothing. These things don't always go with logic. Sometimes stuff just happens.

I will try that, but I think I found another solutions anyways. My F4 key changes the display from computer, duplicate, projection only or extended. So I just leave the screen open and do projection only and it turns off the laptop screen.
