Windows 7: Files Opening Split up in Mult Programs

Files Opening Split up in Mult Programs

This is happening to MANY of my files! I see a file, then click to open and lo and behold I see a list of strangely titled items that appear to be opened up in various programs -- programs like Dreamweaver and others that I never intended them to use. One example is I have a map I saved of a bike trail. I try and open that map and it's in pieces. I see a list that looks like everything has been taken apart and there's a program for each part to open separately! The advertisement banner is one part, etc.

In looking around, I thought "indexing" was my problem...if it helps you solve my problem, just know that I see that I have nearly 8,000 items indexed ...ha ha and I didn't do this! Another clue that might help you help me is that I keep seeing an error when trying to rename a says "THIS ACTION CANNOT BE COMPLETED BECAUSE THE FOLDER OR A FILE IN IT IS OPEN IN ANOTHER PROGRAM" the time I see this error message, it does not appear that any other programs are opened!

I plan to reinstall windows 7 over windows 8 preview. I do have the iso files (not the cd's) and was wondering if I could safely split the nearly 4 gig file.

Batch files not opening some programs
Ohai. It's been a while since I've been here. Didn't help that I'd forgotten my username and password. Anyway, recently I decided to start using batch files to open programs when I want to run several in one go, rather than running all of them at startup. Should save some time if I ever want to...

Seeking an Image Utility allowing backup files to be split into chunks
I was hoping to split up the System Images I am making on my Win7 Home Premium PC into 25GB chunks of files so I can burn them to Bluray discs. But I see the file layout inside a System Image folder puts most of the data in a single file, for me far more than 50GB in size. So I am looking for...

Opening files with pinned programs, and other tips
So recently I've seen that some people still use quicklaunch, which perplexes me a bit. I can't think of anything you can do with quicklaunch that you cannot do with the regular pinned icons via a keypress or two. Now I'm not criticizing anyone for continuing to use quicklaunch as it does make some...
