Network connection does not wake up when PC does

Firefox stops working several times a day & cannot access websites. PC is connected via Ethernet to the modem/router. I get a message website cannot be found. I called the ISP a couple times & they indicate that I am connected to the internet. My other PC does connect & so do wireless devices.

Firefox will not completely close & let me run it again. Task Manager lets me remove all but one occurrence of FF, which prevents me from running another copy of it.

I end up restarting the PC several times a day to get connected again.

All this started happening after I tried a USB wireless adapter & installed its driver & Cisco software that got installed with the driver. I have uninstalled all this & updated the wired network adapter driver.

I tried to restore Windows back to an earlier date a couple times but a message said the restore was not successful.

I set the PC to never go to sleep & so far that works.

I did try changing some Device Manage > controller properties to match my other PC but that didn’t help. Is there some place in the registry that I should look at & change?

    Thanks

Several articles say to go into Device Manager > Network adapters. Select your controller & look at Properties > Power Management.

There are 3 boxes & supposedly the default is having the first 2 checked.
    1) Allow computer to turn off this device to save power,
    2) Allow this device to wake computer.
    3) Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer.

My PC had the first 2 checked. My other PC had all 3 checked. Most troubleshooting tips say to check all 3. Others mentioned different combinations.

Initially I just made the settings match the other PC, but that didn't work. I then found this which appears to favor unchecking everything, and so I did. I double checked the registry & it had the value they suggested. So far everything is OK. I don’t know why the default settings didn’t work, especially since my other PC has those enabled along with #3.
