I don't know how applicable this is, but a fix that has worked so far (although I don't think this is the best long-term solution). Open the windows menu and in the "search programs and files" box type \\ and then the IP address. This came from D-Link and has worked for me (the DNS-321 I think is a unix box, but not for sure). To recap type this in the box \\192.168.x.x (the ip address). You can then map the drive.

Win xp 64 Pro, trying Win 7

Mapped Drives

I tried updating my firmware on my Vantec Nexstar NAS to see if it helped in getting a connection, it did not, however as I had mentioned before Win 7 seemed to connect once to the drive then refuse to connect again. So when I booted this morning and clicked on the link for my NAS, it connected, so I quickly Mapped the shared folders on the drive to Mapped Drives, and told it to connect at startup, it worked so far. I can now get to my files. I tried restarting my computer and the mapped drive are still accessable. I'll keep you posted over the next few days on how it goes.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help with this issue.

PS. I'm loving the new look to Win7!, but still trying to find my way around the menu system.

Soon to be X-XpPro'r

Cheers Mike H

Sorry I am a computer novice; but, I am running out of hard drive C space and I thought maybe I could put Recovery Drive D on a flash drive in order to free up drive C space. If this is possible, can you refer me to some instructions on how to do this? Thanks in advance for your help.
