Desktop crashes when trying to access shared folder from Laptop

    Hello,
I have two units, a Dell XPS 410 and Dell Inspirion 1520 (Laptop) which both use Windows 7 Pro. I haven't used the laptop in a while and after it started, I tried to access a shared folder. At that point, I was able to see the drive on the desktop along with the folders. Once I tried to access the folders, the laptop hung up then finally showed an error indicating a network problem or a rights problem.
When I went to the desktop, I found it rebooting after a crash. This occurred consistently for three attempts of trying different folders in that same drive. Antivirus scans revealed nothing.
Up until today, I have never had that problem since it was set up three years ago.
I am at a loss. What am I missing?

    Thanks,
    Jake

    Cyberman -

From original post: "Once I tried to access the folders, the laptop hung up then finally showed an error indicating a network problem or a rights problem."

There was no error number. I have seen this message from time to time for different issues, which seems to me to be kind of a generic error message..but obviously I'm no expert.

Jake7363 the problem may lie with your desktop the laptop message may be a red herring you should look at the desktop first if that is rebooting on it's own.

How long have had this issue?

On the Windows7 F8 options Choose Last known configuration.

Re-boot computer and please let us know the outcome.

That did the trick! Much obliged.

Short story long, after getting the shared issues fixed, my Norton 360 and UPS software no longer worked (?). So, after doing what Symantec told me and reinstalling the UPS software, all is well.

    Again, thanks so much....
