Need advice on Motor Lodge Wi-Fi

Its been 12years since my wife and I have had a get-a-way vacation and where we are going to stay has wi-fi. It is an in town location (Rehoboth Beach DE) and I called down and was told that their system has been recently upgraded with a local security company.

I don't need it for me, but Kathy has a Samsung Galaxy S3 "smart phone"? It works well here at home with no security problems, but I would like to know if there is anything I should look out for when we get there where we are staying in Delaware.

To the best of my knowledge her phone has the latest Android OS (Android™ 4.3 Jelly Bean), but don't know if it should go to the Android 4.4. KitKat (it might just have kitkat, I don't know) because I've seen that there are problems updating that old of a phone. She's had it for about 2 going on 3years. It does have the M-Bam Anti-Malware Mobile App.

Is the App sufficient or are there settings on the phone that I should re-set to harden the security? One being to cut down on the phones scanning distance in looking for a wi-fi.

I realize I should be more up on this, but this is the first time I've run into this; Security outside the home for Wi-Fi access.
I have a boatload of other thoughts about this but I would like to wait until y'all respond because my questions may be moot.

Anak

EDIT: My wife tells me she has the Samsung Nexus, but we have Verizon and Verizon doesn't list it Sprint does, Verizon has the Galaxy.

Do you really need the Wifi? If not just turn your Wifi off on the phone, If you need to use Data... use your carriers data...

I'll have to check with the wife, we were chewing up the minutes before I could set up the wifi.

I know she doesn't need it for work, just a couple of games she likes to play. Maybe those games are available as apps.

I have a cell that could go online but I never use that feature.

That sounds the best so far.

EDIT:
We have a boatload of data time that we rarely use half of. If she wants to she can use the carrier data.
