    Windows 7 Sharing Folders Issue

    Hello,
I'm new to these forums and hoping to find a solution to my problem. I just got Windows 7 and I'm having this sharing issue. On Windows XP, if I had a folder in 'My Documents' called 'My Pictures' and I shared it, it would only share 'My Pictures.' Now, in Windows 7, when I share 'My Pictures' it also shares every folder back to the root folder of 'Users.'

In other words, to share that one folder, it shares all the folders included in the C:\Users folder, instead of just the C:\Users\User Name\My Pictures folder. Same goes if I put a folder on my Desktop.

The only way I found as a work around is to create a folder C:\Shared and have that shared, and it will only share that folder. Is there a way to solve this? Or do I have to put everything I want shared into its only root folder?

    Always,
    Bawbjohnson

Edit: I tried a search, but could not find anything about this issue, so in advance, I apologize if this issue was already solved in another thread that I could not find.

"to share that one folder, it shares all the folders included in the C:\Users folder, instead of just the C:\Users\User Name\My Pictures folder"

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I mean it in kindness, but that is impossible.

I believe you may be experiencing an issue or perhaps believing you are setting something up how you want it, but whatever you are doing is not correct for the intended results.

Here's what you can do for a test. Pick any folder inside Program Folders and share it.

Go to command prompt, type net share, hit enter. Post a screenshot of this.

Not taking it the wrong way at all, and I appreciate the response!

Well, here goes. Before sharing the 'My Pictures' folder this is what my net share screen shot looks like:

The C:\Shared being the folder I created in the root for sharing.

Now after I share the 'My Pictures' inside my user folder this is the net share:

Instead of adding C:\Users\User Name\My Pictures it adds just C:\Users and shares everything.

Alright, yeah I see what you mean.

Um...wow...never saw something like this before. I would have to believe it has something to do with the fact you're using a folder within Users.

If it was me, I wouldn't share from there then. Doesn't seem like a good place to do so anyhow.

Perhaps you could find a different location to share from and try to stay away from sharing like that.

You can set any alternate directory to be default my pictures, music etc...

Yeah, I'll definitely use the shared folder that I created in the root from now on! I normally use that root folder anyway, I just noticed this issue when I went to share some images with my room mate earlier. I've never seen that issue in earlier versions, and I just upgraded to Windows 7 yesterday so it was confusing me.

If I find anything out, I'll be sure to post. You never know, someone else might run into this issue as well.

Right. Well, that's a good find. I'm not so sure Microsoft did this by design. It makes no sense to me.
